Nailah Blackman is taking Trinidad & Tobago, the Caribbean and the World by storm. Some think, who is this pretty young lady, with this unique voice? Where did she come from?
Actually, she is born in music, music is part of her DNA.
Daughter of well- known Trinidadian Calypso Artist Abbi Blackman, and Granddaughter of the late Ras Shorty I, the founder of Soca Music and the related genre Chutney Soca.
With this ancestry in Soca royalty, Nailah has been immersed in music her entire life and is an accomplished musician not only classically trained in voice but also in various instruments including the guitar and keyboards. Nailah is also a prolific songwriter and composer and continues to write and compose her own songs which recently included her Soca chart topping hit for Trinidad & Tobago Carnival 2017 entitled “Work Out” featuring Kes the Band, a single that received rave reviews at the 2017 International Soca Monarch Finals Competition and
continues to soar past six million hits on YouTube. Nailah’s single “Baila
Mami” hit over 4 million views and was number 1 on the music charts and radio airplay in both Trinidad and Barbados and was ranked in the top 5 downloads on Itunes in the Caribbean Market. Nailah’s most
recent release “Badishh” featured the Jamaican sensation, Shenseea, was also a chart topper with over 2 million on Youtube views and ranked in the top 3 of the Youtube artist chart in Trinidad and Tobago. Nailah is currently working on her first studio album, an EP with 7 songs to be released on December 2nd 2017 for her 20th birthday for her EP Launch concert entitled “SOKAH Origins”.
SOKAH Origins will be held on San Fernando Hill on December 2nd 2017 from 6pm. Nailah will be performing her hits songs as well as some new releases which will be featured on her EP. Other entertainers who will be performing at this event include members of the Blackman family as well as well-known local and regional artistes. Carnival 2018, is going to be a turning moment in Nailah’s career, she is working on a collaboration with Soca Superstar Machel Montano. She also plans to launch her music band “Sokah” and her clothing line of the same name.
